Initially, for the Speech assessment module, we considered integrating Pearson's speech model, as it offered a seamless experience. However, we decided against it due to potential increases in customer acquisition cost (CAC) and opted to develop our speech model instead.

I'm excited to share the story of Project CopyCat, an initiative designed to revolutionize how Porter's delivery partners interact with our app. Understanding the needs and challenges of our partners was at the heart of this project. By improving comprehension within the app, we aimed to create a smoother, more efficient experience for everyone involved.

The Project CopyCat’s overview is to simplify the app experience for Porter’s delivery partners, many of whom face comprehension barriers. We aimed to build an understanding and an approachable application for our partners.This initiative was all about making their work easier and less stressful.

Our biggest challenge was that over 80% of Porter's delivery partners struggled with reading and comprehending the app's interface. Many relied on recognizing a few familiar English words to navigate, leading to errors, delays, and increased support requests. This affected not only the partners but also the efficiency of our operations. We saw that support flows and task-related moments were the most affected, where there was low comprehension of complex UX copy.

Solving this comprehension problem was crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it directly impacted partner satisfaction and their ability to perform tasks independently. Secondly, reducing errors and support requests would streamline operations and save valuable resources. And thirdly, a more intuitive app experience would empower our partners, fostering a stronger sense of ownership and confidence.

We brainstormed various approaches to simplify the app copy, from manual rewrites to AI-powered solutions. We explored ideas like using visual aids, incorporating voice commands, and personalizing the language based on partner experience. The selected concept was CopyCat, an AI-driven tool that auto-generates contextual, partner-friendly copy.

Feedback from designers and partners was continuously incorporated. For example, initial drafts of AI-generated copy were sometimes too generic, so we refined the AI model to better capture the context of each screen and interaction.

I started by creating low-fidelity wireframes to map out the core workflow of CopyCat. The rationale behind key design decisions was to make the workflow intuitive for designers. They could upload an image of the app screen, and CopyCat would analyze it and generate alternative copy suggestions.

We built interactive prototypes using Figma, focusing on the image upload, contextual analysis, tone detection, and copy generation flow. Iterative testing with designers helped us refine the design and ensure it seamlessly integrated into their existing workflows.

Visually, we kept the design clean and uncluttered, using a color scheme that aligned with Porter's brand. The typography was chosen for readability, ensuring the AI-generated copy was easy to scan and understand.

User testing involved having designers use CopyCat to rewrite existing app copy. Key findings included that CopyCat significantly reduced the time spent rewriting copy and improved the overall clarity of the app's interface.

A major challenge was ensuring the AI-generated copy was both simple and contextually accurate. We overcame this by building a persona-first tonal matrix and continuously validating the AI's output with designers. This allowed us to fine-tune the AI model and produce copy that was both easy to understand and relevant to the specific situation.

The final design solution was CopyCat, an AI-powered tool integrated into the design workflow. It enabled designers to quickly generate contextual, partner-friendly copy. Post-launch, we observed improvements in partner comprehension and a significant reduction in copy creation time for the design team.

Metrics showed a 20% improvement in comprehension accuracy and a 40% reduction in the time designers spent rewriting copy. These results demonstrated the positive impact of CopyCat on both partner experience and design efficiency.
